Australian Kids are Moving Slower

Australian kids are moving slower than they were in the 80’s so now, more than ever, it is important that we try to find a balance between the growing need for technology and physical activity.

The physical and mental benefits from being active at all stages in a person’s life are clear. Despite this, as a nation we are moving less than ever and remarkably, inactivity when combined with obesity is now considered almost as risky to our nation’s health as smoking.

Some disturbing figures:

  • 81 per cent of Australian children are not meeting the recommended Australian guidelines
  • nearly 70 per cent of adults are either sedentary or have low levels of physical activity
  • two-thirds of adults and one-quarter of children are overweight or obese

United Kingdom studies revealed the least fit child from a class of 30 in 1998 would be one of the five fittest children in a class of the same age today.  This is despite lots of evidence showing sport and physical activity play a positive
role in children’s holistic development as well as their education.

The role that sport and physical activity plays in personal development is significant and should not be underestimated. Sport and  physical activity gives everyone the chance to test their limits, be it by starting your first park run on a Saturday morning or competing in a 100m final at the Olympic Games. It also enables us celebrate our personal successes, on a podium at a world event or achieving a personal best weight lift in the gym.

It is important that Australian children become active in ways that support their development and set them up for a lifetime of activity and good health. This includes an emphasis on the importance of play as a form of physical activity.

Schools in Australia value highly the roles sport and physical education play in the development of the whole child, and provide excellent experiences for their students.  Schools are key contributors to more physically active communities.

Bring it on Sports are proudly helping to save lives by joining the successful Australian Red Cross Blood Service’s socially responsible program called Red25: United To Save Lives.

Only 1 in 30 Australians donate blood but 1 in 3 Australians will need blood at some stage in their life.  Each donation helps save 3 lives.

Red25 is the group donation program of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service with a goal  to rally organisations and groups across the country to achieve, together, 25% of the blood donations needed by Australia.

PILATES – Bankstown and Greystanes

BANKSTOWN

  • Adult Group – Women only
  • Tuesday Nights 5.45pm to 7.25pm
  • Must have qualifications in Pilates and First Aid
  • Starts Tuesday 29th January through to Tuesday 9th April 2019

GREYSTANES

  • Adult Group – Men and Women
  • Thursday Nights 6.45pm to 8.25pm
  • Must have qualifications in Pilates and First Aid
  • Starts Thursday 31st January through to Thursday 11th April 2019

BOOT CAMP – Greystanes

  • Adult Fitness – Men and Women
  • Thursday Nights 5.30pm to 7.10pm
  • Must have Certificate 3 in Fitness and First Aid
  • Starts Thursday the 31st January through to Thursday 11th April 2019
