Press Release: Thursday 15 February 2024 – 12.00pm
Gridiron NSW and Bring it on Sports Join Forces to Bring Thrilling Flag Football Leagues to NSW!
Gridiron NSW, the state’s governing body for American Football, is delighted to announce an alliance with Bring it on Sports for the implementation of Flag Football
Leagues in NSW. This collaboration signifies the initiation of the inaugural Flag Football competitions affiliated with both Gridiron NSW and Gridiron Australia, set to unfold in NSW.

Flag football is a non-contact version of American football where the primary difference lies in the method of “tackling” opponents. In flag football, instead of traditional tackling, defenders remove flags. This modification eliminates the physical contact making the sport a safer option.
The upcoming leagues will be initially unveiled across the Sydney metropolitan region, welcoming participants aged 8 years and above. This presents a unique opportunity for
individuals to partake in a dynamic and inclusive sport, highlighting values of teamwork, strategy, and physical fitness.
“We at Bring it on Sports are thrilled to take charge of Flag Football Competitions in collaboration with Gridiron NSW” expressed Elissa Manera, co-director of Bring it on Sports. “Having dedicated ourselves to delivering various sports, including Flag Football to schools over the past 17 years, being entrusted with the Gridiron NSW Flag Football competitions is truly exciting. This endeavour also opens up avenues for participants to potentially represent their state and country in upcoming tournaments.”
“We are delighted to collaborate with Bring it on Sports to deliver Flag Football Competitions in NSW. It’s an exciting opportunity to raise the awareness of our sport, not only in local communities, but in schools. Introducing American Football at a young age, via Flag Football, is an exciting way for not only our youth, but also their parents to get involved in our sport.” remarked David Mayne, President of Gridiron NSW. “We are excited that Flag Football has been named as a new Olympic Sport for Los Angeles 2028, and it will also be included in Brisbane 2032; and like most sports in the Olympics, Aussies always strive to be the best in the world.” further expressed Mayne. “In partnering with Bring it on Sports, we are also lucky to have one of the Directors Paul Manera onboard. Paul is also the Australian National Women’s Head Coach, who late last year, earned a silver medal at the IFAF Asia-Oceania Intercontinental Cup in Malaysia. We are excited to have his expertise guiding the next wave of future talent in our sport, making the decision for GNSW to collaborate with Bring it on Sports, an obvious choice.”

The inaugural 2024 GNSW Flag Football season is scheduled to kick off in May 2024, and expressions of interest are currently being accepted from interested players, coaches, managers, and officials who wish to participate in this exciting season.
